ACORN COMMITTEE

·         Nikki Stephenson – Chairperson & Registrar

·         Gail Barrow – Secretary

·         Marianne Lowne – Treasurer

·         Caroline Reed – Fundraising

·         Becca Birt – Trustee

·         Hari Weights – Trustee

·         Liz Parson – Trustee

As Trustees we have found out a lot more about how Acorn is run and in particular how much help is needed from parents to keep it running and make it a success.

As a parent you should be aware that:

·         Acorn receives no funding from the local authority

·         Acorn is run as a charity and is non - profit making

·         Acorn used to receive a grant to pay for the rent of the room (acorn is totally independent from the school) but this grant has been stopped.

·         The Fees Acorn receives direct from parents or through funded places only cover staff wage costs and the rent of the building

·         There are no grants to pay for new toys, books, equipment and essential items like cleaning materials, toilet tissue etc.

Fundraising is the only way Acorn is able to provide the essential items and buy new toys for our children to play with. On the Acorn playground notice board there are details of the items fundraising money has already paid for and items we are trying to raise additional funds for.

We always need to raise funds to pay for new equipment and to replace worn out items. There are many fundraising events throughout the year, but they all reply on help from parents. Therefore we ask you to consider helping out next time a plea is made for help for an event. Parents really do make a difference, and a well equipped nursery really is beneficial for our children. Even if helping out for a few hours is not possible, a donation for the fundraising event would be really appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and we hope to see you at an event soon!
