"From little Acorns great Oak trees grow"
Formed as a playgroup and pre-school in 1992, Acorn is situated within the grounds of Oaklands Primary School, in the Oaklands area of Welwyn.
Within the grounds there are some dedicated facilities for the younger children but as a benefit of the good relationship with the Primary School a number of additional facilities are shared to enhance your child’s time with us. This has the added benefit of ensuring that the ultimate transition into Primary School and full time education, whether at Oaklands or elsewhere, is less traumatic as the children have already had some exposure to such an environment.
As a registered charity Acorn is funded by a mixture of State and Charitable contributions guaranteeing an active social agenda throughout the school year! The playgroup and pre-school is registered with the Hertfordshire LEA and OFSTED as a Voluntary Aided School, Accredited by the Pre-School Learning Alliance, is regularly assessed by Social Services and is working towards a HERTS Quality Standard Award
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE UNDER FIVE’S
Oh! What a busy morning,
I’ve been playing with the dough,
And with a little help upon a card I’ve even learnt to sew.
I’ve helped my friend ‘nurse’ Sarah perform an operation,
Then fixed the track together for my train and built a station.
I popped into Home Corner to make a cup of tea,
And stood beside the cooker making lunch for twenty-three!
I completed three whole jigsaws,
And played a brand new board game,
And had a turn on all the bikes, the slide and climbing frame.
I handed round the biscuits at milk and biscuit time,
Then I listened to a story and sang a nursery rhyme.
But now the morning’s over,
And the parents are all waiting,
I hope they don’t say to me,
‘Oh darling, where’s your painting?’
